Granite care

Granite is a high-quality and very hard natural stone which, when polished, withstands strong weather influences well and requires little maintenance under normal use. To preserve the beauty of this natural stone for a long time, you should observe the following points:

Gravestones and grave accessories can become covered with deposits from trees and plants, but also from environmental pollution. These should be rinsed off in good time with warm water and a soft cloth or sponge. Do not use any cleaning agents containing acids or surfactants (including soapy water), as this could stain the granite. An oil-based cleaning agent is more suitable for cleaning the surfaces. Avoid vigorous rubbing and do not use any abrasive or scratching agents that could dull the surface. Cleaning with high-pressure cleaners and steam cleaners should also be avoided, as these could damage the surface structure.

Special granite cleaning agents are available from specialist retailers which are certainly suitable, but in our opinion not absolutely necessary.

After cleaning, you can do something good for your granite by sealing the surface with special granite impregnation. This is available from specialist retailers as well as DIY stores.

If the granite does show dull stains, the surfaces can be rubbed with ammonia and then polished with floor polish. Of course, ready-made special products are also available from specialist retailers.
